“You can do one million sit ups, squats, deadlifts, and planks but if your form is not at par then forget all those because they would be a waste. I have never had a trainer who cares as much as Nicol. She pushes you to constantly challenge yourself, physically and mentally, and really focuses on form. “Fitness has always been important to me, but about a year ago I found myself in a complete workout rut. My progress had plateaued, and I felt frustrated and totally unmotivated to go to the gym. As someone who primarily lifted weights, I never quite believed that Pilates-type workouts could “push me” enough, but out of desperation need to try something new, I decided to join a Lagree studio across the street. I started going to classes 3-4x a week, and I quickly realized that not all instructors were the same. One instructor, Nicol was especially good at fixing my form, challenging me, and finally making me feel stronger. She didn’t just tell me what moves to do at what time - she taught me how to use the muscles in my body. I felt like I was correctly using the muscles in my core and my butt for the first time in years! I finally felt like I was getting in good shape again - which was perfect timing as I met her six months before my wedding (thank god!). The best part was I could apply my improved form to all my other workouts, and now I feel both smarter and safer about how I am working out in the gym and in all other types of classes (yoga, HIIT, etc). “Nicol’s virtual classes have been a godsend during Covid-19. My favorites are the arms, butt, and core-based pilates classes. They are all tough and kick my butt (in a good way), but Nicol has been great at keeping the routines fresh, correcting my form, and motivating me when things get hard. From plank exercises to push ups, I’ve definitely gotten stronger in the past two years thanks to Nicol and can now do a full push up on my toes! I've also trained with Nicol at two different Lagree Pilates studios and done fitness challenges and personal training assessments with her. “Where do I start with Nicol, I have been working out on and off since high school, but as I get older I realize I can no longer make up for bad form with brute strength. When Nicol started working with me, she persistently focused on my weakness in form and forced me to modify my exercises to properly perform movements and active the correct muscle fibers I am trying to work. As a surgeon, with a detailed understanding of the body, I was surprised I had bad form and quickly understood this was leading to my chronic pain and aches. Nicol had me look in a different direction while doing a deadlift to maintain a neutral spine position, added a resistance band during my squat to prevent me from caving my knees and ankles in, and had to get creative to fix me :) Now, I workout more efficiently and safely due to her excellent coaching. “I first met Nicol when I did a free trial at F45 and was looking to supplement my cardio days at Orange Theory (OTF) with more strength-based training. Nicol was the coach on stretch days and when I saw she also taught one of the cardio classes, I decided to make the switch completely! I have seen more gains in the first 3 months of F45 than I have in the 3 years of OTF, and honestly it was all because of Nicol. She takes the time to forge connections with her clients beyond just greeting them by name. She noted my capabilities and limitations and provided modifications when necessary. At the same time, I really appreciated that she always pushed me outside my comfort zone by suggesting heavier weights or more difficult progressions when she sees that an exercise is not challenging enough for me. “Nicol is so much more than a coach, she is a motivator, leader and facilitator who brings positivity throughout her sessions, guides you through each transition and consistently provides positive reinforcement. Her classes are fun, yet intense, and that is why I find myself coming back! I was totally out of shape my first class and took a few 15 min breaks. “For a 45 minute lunchtime quickie, Nicol's classes definitely pack a punch! I've been lucky enough to pop into some of her noon time classes at HitFitSF, and I always leave happy and pumped that I did it. Nicol's classes keep me engaged because of the format. The circuits are challenging and keep you on your toes, and they're dynamic and station-based so you get to move around the room and focus on different body parts and movements during your workout. I like balance, and in these classes, I definitely feel like I get that! You can tell that Nicol puts a lot of thought into the workout because of the different moves and combos she throws in, and that's why I think her classes are a "must attend"!”

“Since I started working out with Nicol, I have made tremendous strides in regards to my functional strength, cardiovascular health and overall wellbeing. What amazes me the most is Nicol's attention to detail and knowledge in everything fitness! I myself have struggled with knee, ankle, and foot (plantar fasciitis) injuries for years as a soccer player, and have had trouble with sticking to workouts. However, Nicol trained and educated me to work on specific movements that would help my recovery. She strengthened my glutes, back and improved my core strength and posture, so my quads and knee doesn’t take all the weight in movements. She also customizes the small group training sessions to whoever joins the workouts! I no longer have ankle pain and can go running/hiking with my dog, and play soccer without pain!!
